Radiograph of a Family
Firouzeh Khosrovani / IR, NO, 2020 / 82 min.
Her mother is religious, her father comes from a liberal family and dreamt of a different future. This IDFA winner follows a divided family against the background of the modern history of Iran.
“Mother married a photo of father,” is the opening sentence of this intimate film that won Best Feature-length Documentary at IDFA 2020. This is no poetic licence on the part of maker Firouzeh Khosrovani: her mother Tayi literally married a portrait of Hossein in Teheran, as he was unable as a radiology student in Switzerland to return to Iran for the occasion.
