Ladri di biciclette
Vittorio De Sica / IT, 1948 / 90 min.
Antonio and his son Bruno wander through Rome trying to trace the man who stole Antonio’s bicycle. This neo-realistic classic offers an unsentimental take on the struggle for life in post-war Italy, awarded an honorary Oscar for Best Foreign Film. 4K restoration.
Italian neorealism flourished from 1943 to 1952. The narratives were not only quotidian, shot on location and stripped of all Hollywood glamour, the cast was often literally press-ganged from the streets. Ladri di biciclette is a wonderful example of this genre.
