Flux Gourmet
Peter Strickland / GB, HU, US, 2022 / 111 min.
In Peter Strickland’s latest film, a journalist reports on research by a culinary art collective into the usefulness of digestive sounds and flatulence in audio compositions: ‘sonic catering’. Flux Gourmet could well be Strickland’s weirdest film, at once a gory comedy and an ode to creativity.
Strickland (Berberian Sound Studio, The Duke of Burgundy) once played in an experimental noise group, The Sonic Catering Band. Their method? Go into the kitchen, cook, record the sounds then play them back, manipulated and amplified.
Preshow
Before Flux Gourmet you will see the two-minute advertising film Per grandi e piccini (1955), in which we take a look behind the scenes at the making of an advertising film with puppets. This film comes from the Eye archive and was made in the famous Dollywood studios of Joop Geesink, where the Loekie de Leeuw films were also made.
