Keep an Eye 2024: Five Nights Shomal + Dissolving alley - pilot
Marlene Dirven screens the pilot of her fiction film, followed by a live music performance on cello. Vatae Kimlee briefly introduces her research followed by the screening of her short animation film and a Q&A.
Five Nights Shomal (pilot)
In her first feature fiction film Five Nights Shomal, filmmaker Marlene Dirven shares her cinematic account of her own experience with PTSD, in which her music compositions play a key role. After the pilot film of 12 minutes, Dirven reflects on the filmmaking process and themes with live music and spoken word, revealing how trauma continues to shape a woman’s sense of self and independence over time.
Dissolving Alley
Vatae Kimlee started asking her grandparents about a place where they lived. As a young woman born and raised in Korea, the feeling of disconnection and rootlessness was not simply a personal problem. Story pieces wander around the places that are demolished or are about to be demolished.
