Die Insel der Dämonen
Friedrich Dalsheim / DEUZE, 1933 / 83 min.
One of the highlights of Eye’s collection, by the pioneer of ethnographic films Friedrich Dalsheim, praised for his amazing nature footage and photography, featuring iconic images of Bali. New digital restoration, introduced by Louise von Plessen.
Friedrich Dalsheim (1895 - 1936) was a pioneer of ethnographic film. During the 1930s he shot four feature-length films, travelling to Togo, Greenland and Borneo. Inspired by Robert Flaherty, he preferred to make films with a narrative element. This means his works are not ethnographic reports, but stories from the perspectives of the people he filmed.
