De jeugd van Ivan
Andrej Tarkovski / SUHH, 1962 / 94 min.
Andrei Tarkovsky's first feature film, a classic, won a Golden Lion upon premièring at the Venice film festival. This socially committed film – the personal testimony of a Russian child soldier – can be seen both in digitally restored form and on 35mm.
With the war in Ukraine and harsh repression meted out by Putin, Russia seems to be returning to the dictatorial era of Stalin, with a contemporary twist. Unlike in the late 1950s and early ’60s, when Nikita Khrushchev created space for political reforms, and the cultural climate became (relatively) more liberal.
